Iconic Performances and Ways to Save at JALC

This month at Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC), located on Broadway at 60th Street at Deutsche Bank Center, experience the brilliance of jazz legends with two exceptional performances. Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) revive the spirit of swing, while Anat Cohen marks her 50th birthday with a vibrant, genre-spanning celebration. Plus, with budget-friendly ticket options, late-night sessions, and exclusive streaming, there are plenty of ways to enjoy outstanding jazz without stretching your budget.

Step into the rich tradition of swing with the JLCO and Wynton Marsalis in Journey Through Jazz: Part VII on March 1 (February 28 is already sold out!). Co-led by JLCO saxophonists Sherman Irby and Chris Lewis, this performance reimagines the golden era of jazz with small band adaptations of big band vocal classics. From Billie Holiday’s timeless masterpieces to fresh interpretations, the evening showcases the captivating vocals of Kate Kortum and the artistry of guitarist James Chirillo. Before the show, the next generation of jazz talent from JALC’s High School Jazz Academy sets the tone in the Ertegun Atrium. Then, in The Appel Room—framed by sweeping views of the New York skyline—the JLCO brings history to life with a night of storytelling, swing, and musical mastery.

The Grammy-nominated clarinetist, saxophonist, and composer brings a thrilling mix of styles to The Appel Room on March 14–15, incorporating swing, post-bop, Brazilian choro, klezmer, and more. Those who attended Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square in 2010 might remember her unforgettable performance at the American Folk Art Museum. From solo explorations and intimate duos with 7-string guitarist Marcello Gonçalves to the vibrant energy of her acclaimed Tentet—featuring her brother and longtime collaborator, trumpeter Avishai Cohen—this performance is a fitting tribute to her 50th birthday, showcasing her boundless talent. Adding even more depth to the evening, her group Quartetinho, with Vitor Gonçalves, Tal Mashiach, and James Shipp, brings its own distinctive voice to the celebration. More than just a concert, this milestone event is a journey through sound, spirit, and Cohen’s extraordinary career.

For those seeking budget-friendly ways to enjoy JALC, there are several discount programs available, including Hot Seats ($10 tickets), student discounts, group rates, and the ability to create your own concert series for up to 40% off.
