Summer Streets Returns to Manhattan

Summer Streets returns to Manhattan on Saturdays, August 1, 8, and 15, transforming more than 20 miles of city streets into a car-free playground for walking, biking, running, and recreation. From 7:00am to 3:00pm, the route will stretch from the Brooklyn Bridge to Dyckman Street, including Broadway between West 110th Street and Dyckman Street, with free fitness classes, live performances, art installations, public art, and family-friendly activities taking place along the way. Free Vocational English Classes for Restaurant Workers

#English2Stay is offering free vocational English classes for restaurant workers. Developed in partnership with restaurant operators, the training is designed to address restaurant-focused language needs, strengthen employee engagement, reduce language barriers, avoid costly mistakes, and support employee retention. Restaurant owners and managers can download the flyer or complete the confidential interest form to learn more about the program.

National Night Out

Join the NYPD and City officials on Tuesday, August 4, for National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and strengthens relationships between neighbors and law enforcement.

The 20th Precinct’s event will take place at Verdi Square (Broadway between West 72nd and West 73rd Streets) from 6:00pm–8:00pm (the Lincoln Square BID will be there!), while the Central Park Precinct and Transit District 1 will host their event at the entrance to Central Park at Columbus Circle from 4:00pm–7:00pm.

Narcan Behind Every Bar

Effective December 13, 2026, New York State employers will be required to include an opioid antagonist, such as naloxone (Narcan®), wherever federal law requires a workplace first aid kit. This requirement applies to virtually all restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and other hospitality businesses in New York. Through the Narcan Behind Every Bar campaign, the NYC Department of Small Business Services and its partners offer free opioid overdose prevention training, overdose rescue kits, and other resources for nightlife and hospitality businesses. Visitor Traffic Climbs in Lincoln Square

May was a busy month in Lincoln Square. Through the Placer.ai platform, which analyzes anonymized mobile device data to track visitor activity and foot traffic, the BID gained valuable insights into district trends.
In May, Lincoln Square welcomed more than 1.2 million visitors, up more than 12% from April and nearly 2% from May 2025. Saturdays were the busiest days in the district, followed by Fridays and Sundays, underscoring strong weekend activity. The data also showed that the district’s most visited destinations in May were the Shops at Columbus Circle, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and the Metropolitan Opera House.
These trends highlight Lincoln Square’s continued appeal as a destination for shopping, dining, culture, and entertainment.

Alternate Side Parking Suspension for Juneteenth

Juneteenth Sanitation Service Notice

There will be no trash, curbside composting, or recycling collection on Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth. Residents who normally receive Friday trash, curbside composting, or recycling collection may place their material at the curb Friday evening, for collection beginning Saturday, June 20. NYC Restaurant Week Registration Open

Registration is now open for NYC Restaurant Week Summer 2026, which runs from Monday, July 20, through Sunday, August 16, with an optional extension through Labor Day Weekend. Participating restaurants may offer two-course prix-fixe lunches and three-course prix-fixe dinners at $30, $45, or $60. Restaurants also receive added exposure through the NYC Restaurant Week website, press outreach, and social media promotion.
The final registration deadline is Thursday, July 30, but restaurants that register after Sunday, June 14, may not be included in all promotional elements or be live for program launch. Register here.

Mastercard New York Mini 10K

The Mastercard New York Mini 10K takes place on Saturday, June 6, beginning at 8:00am at Central Park West and West 90th Street. Road closures along Central Park West between West 72nd and West 96th Streets will begin as early as 4:00am, with additional restrictions affecting nearby cross streets and access from Columbus Avenue. The West 79th Street and West 86th Street Transverses will close at 7:30am. Central Park West is expected to reopen by noon. Partial Broadway Closure for Street Fair 

A street fair will take place on Sunday, June 7, on the west side of Broadway between West 65th and West 72nd Streets. The event runs from 10:00am to 6:00pm, with setup beginning as early as 8:00am. The affected portion of Broadway will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event.

Museum Mile Festival

The annual Museum Mile Festival returns on Tuesday, June 9, offering free admission to eight museums along Fifth Avenue’s Museum Mile. Beginning at 6:00pm, visitors can explore exhibitions and special programming at The Africa Center, El Museo del Barrio, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, the Jewish Museum, Neue Galerie New York, and the Museum of the City of New York. National Puerto Rican Day Parade

FIFA World Cup Business Readiness Webinars 

The NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) is hosting webinars to prepare businesses in the hospitality industry for the surge of tourists coming to New York City for the FIFA World Cup 26™. Upcoming sessions will be held on Tuesday, June 9, at 12:00pm; Wednesday, June 10, at 10:00am; and Friday, June 12, at 2:00pm. Register for an upcoming webinar here.

World Cup Match Day Transportation Changes

Businesses and commuters should be aware of transportation changes planned for FIFA World Cup 2026™ match days between Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, July 19. The City is encouraging businesses to shift delivery windows on match days, and truck deliveries will be restricted between 30th and 60th Streets, from the East River to the Hudson River, beginning six hours before kickoff and ending three hours after each match.

To support stadium-bound shuttle service, New York City will implement a bus-only corridor on 42nd Street and dedicated bus-only lanes on portions of Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Additional subway service will also be provided on match days. To learn how to get to the stadium, click here.

It is our understanding that there will be pick-ups and drop-offs in or near Lincoln Square and Columbus Circle. You should expect delays, so plan your route accordingly. You can check the MTA’s World Cup Travel Guide to learn about service on match days.

Alternate Side Parking Suspension

Alternate Side Parking is suspended on Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, for Shavuoth and Monday, May 25, for Memorial Day. On Memorial Day, you can park at a No Stopping, No Standing, or No Parking sign if the rule is not normally in effect seven days a week (for example, No Standing Anytime). Otherwise, you cannot. Parking meter regulations are also suspended on Monday.

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Good Neighbor Awards through Goddard Riverside. The awards honor extraordinary, uncompensated community members’ valuable contributions and outstanding efforts to serve, co-create, and help build a better community.
Eligible nominees include uncompensated individuals from the Upper West Side, Harlem, East Harlem, Yorkville, and other Goddard Riverside program communities.

Comment Request on Third-Party Delivery App Fee Caps

The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) enforces NYC’s Third-Party Food Delivery Service Laws, which cap the fees that third-party delivery apps can charge restaurants. New York City Emergency Management (NYCEM) is reminding New Yorkers to prepare for flash flooding—one of the city’s fastest-moving and most dangerous weather threats, especially for residents living in basement apartments. Update on Extell’s 67th Street Redevelopment 

From Monday, March 16, through Sunday, March 29, demolition of the existing buildings located at 147 Columbus Ave, 149 Columbus Ave, 77 West 66th Street, and 47 West 66th Street of the former ABC/Disney Campus is set to occur. 

Demolition of interiors and structural demolition of the existing buildings, inclusive of slabs, beams, steel, walls, removal of glass, and mechanical equipment, will continue to take place within this work activity period. Hoist operation and modifications are ongoing. Berming and removal of material at Grade will also take place. Hauling and trucking to take place as needed to facilitate the removal of noted building elements on 66th Street and 67th Street. Pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular routes will remain open around the construction site per DOT approvals. Flagmen will be deployed to construction trucking entry and exit locations. Work hours will be 7:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday. Weekend – Saturday work will be 9:00am to 5:00pm, but will be limited to carting, interior work, and cleanup, to limit any disruption.

New Local Laws

Security Grilles – Visibility Requirements
Local Law 75 of 2009 requires that no later than Wednesday, July 1, 2026, all existing and new security grilles installed on buildings that are classified in Occupancy Groups B (Business) or M (Mercantile) must have visibility from the sidewalk of at least 70%. This does not apply to security grilles on buildings classified in Occupancy Group S (Storage) or a building designated as a landmark. Security grilles that have solid panels or have a visibility from the sidewalk of less than 70% are not allowed and are not in compliance with City laws. Sidewalk Shed Permits – Duration & Renewal
Under Local Laws 48 and 51 of 2025, all sidewalk shed permits issued or renewed on or after Monday, February 2, 2026, will have a maximum duration of 90 days and will not auto-renew. A $130 renewal fee will be required for each renewal. Permits issued before Monday, February 2, will expire according to their original schedule. Read more here.

DSNY Alert

The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) announced that all nine sizes and colors of official NYC Bins are now available at NYC Home Depot locations, for in-store pickup via homedepot.com/NYCBins, or for delivery via Instacart, DoorDash, or Uber Eats. Buildings with 1 to 9 residential units will be required to use NYC Bins for their trash starting in June 2026, which is another step in the city’s plan to remove the mountains of black bags from sidewalks, reclaim public space, and improve quality of life. Remove Standing Water From Your Property

Property owners and managers are required to eliminate standing water on their properties beginning April 1 in order to control mosquitoes. Mosquitoes breed in standing water and can spread West Nile virus and other diseases, and keeping properties free from accumulated water is the best way to protect the community. Removing standing water is also required under Section 151.03 of the NYC Health Code from April 1 through October 31, with failure to comply resulting in summonses subject to fines. If standing water cannot be removed, it can be treated with Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis), a product that kills young mosquitoes. DSNY Alert

The New York City Department of Sanitation announced that in observance of Presidents’ Day, there will be NO trash, curbside composting, or recycling collection on the holiday, Monday, February 16. Residents who normally receive Monday trash, curbside composting, or recycling collection may place their material at the curb Monday evening for collection beginning Tuesday, February 17. Residents should understand that collection delays may occur after holidays and winter storms.  

NOTE: While Thursday, February 12, is recognized by the City as Lincoln’s Birthday and typically a collection holiday, due to the recent storm, this will NOT be a holiday, and there will be regular collection that day. Residents with Thursday collection should follow their normal set-out schedule.

Sidewalk Shed Permits – Duration & Renewal
Under Local Laws 48 and 51 of 2025, all sidewalk shed permits issued or renewed on or after Monday, February 2, 2026, will have a maximum duration of 90 days and will not auto-renew. A $130 renewal fee will be required for each renewal. Permits issued before Monday, February 2, will expire according to their original schedule. Read more here.

Proposed Amendments to Earned Safe and Sick Time Act

The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) is proposing amendments to the Earned Safe and Sick Time Act (ESSTA), following Local Law 145 of 2025, to allow employees to take safe/sick time for additional reasons, including:

• Providing care for a child or care recipient
• Attending legal proceedings or actions related to subsistence benefits or housing
• Responding to a public disaster
• Responding to workplace violence

DCWP will hold a public hearing on the proposed rules at 11:00am on Monday, March 2, accessible by phone or videoconference. Anyone may comment on the proposed rules by website, email, or speaking at the hearing. All comments must be submitted by March 2. Click here to read the proposed rules and learn how to participate in the hearing and submit comments. 

New Date for Free Children’s Book Fair

Council Member Gale Brewer’s annual Free Children’s Book Fair has been rescheduled for Sunday, March 8, from 1:00pm–4:00pm, at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan (334 Amsterdam Avenue between West 75th and 76th Street). The fair was originally planned for January 25 and was postponed due to the snowstorm. Kids can pick out free, gently used children’s books to start or grow their own collections.

West 59th Street Women’s Shelter

Construction is underway at 537 West 59th Street, the future site of the W59th Street Women’s Shelter, a Project Renewal initiative providing safe housing for women in need. In February 2026, work is expected to include finalizing MEP systems and utility connections, completing the sidewalk concrete pour, and delivering interior furniture. NYC Half Marathon

The United Airlines NYC Half Marathon returns on Sunday, March 15, at 7:00am. The 13.1-mile course starts in Brooklyn, crosses the Brooklyn Bridge, runs along the FDR Drive, and offers the rare opportunity to dash through Times Square before finishing in Central Park. Street closures, updated course maps, and directions will be made available on the NYC Half Marathon website closer to the race.

Advance Notification of NYC Annual Restaurant Health Inspections

All NYC restaurants will now receive two email alerts before annual inspections from the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene—one 1–5 months in advance and another 3–6 weeks before. Each email, sent from noreply@newsletters.nyc.gov, includes information to help restaurants prepare for inspection so they can achieve an A grade and avoid fines, including a self-inspection checklist; a fact sheet on the most common violations and how to avoid them; a link to order a personalized, free Inspection History Report; and information about Food Protection Certificate training.

Restaurants can also contact SBS’s NYC Business Express Service Team for free, one-on-one compliance support at any time, and especially before inspection. Just call the SBS hotline at 888-SBS-4NYC (888-727-4692), available Monday–Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, and ask to be connected with NYC BEST.
