Alternate Side Parking: Alternate side parking regulations will be suspended for Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11. The full NYC ASP calendar can be found here.

Gridlock Alert Days: The NYC Department of Transportation has classified Wednesday, November 19, Thursday, November 20, and Tuesday, November 25 as Gridlock Alert Days due to expected heavy traffic. For more information, click here. 

Food Assistance

The Office of the Manhattan Borough President has provided resources for people facing food insecurity from the loss of SNAP benefits due to the federal government shutdown. The Food Bank for NYC Food Map shows locations for food pantries and free meals. People using SNAP benefits will be notified about the status of their November SNAP benefits by the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) through the OTDA website, NYC ACCESS HRA, myBenefits, the ebtEDGE app, and by text. Any unused benefits will remain available after November 1—you can check your EBT balance at ebtEDGE.com or through the ebtEDGE app.

I Love the Upper West Side has published an article with information about where to find food pantries and free meals, as well as how you can volunteer to help people in the neighborhood facing food insecurity.

Mentorship for Young Women

Free weekly L.O.V.E. Mentoring sessions (Latinas On the Verge of Excellence) that are open to young women in middle or high school, and interested in mentorship, education, and leadership development, begin on Thursday, November 6, at 4:30pm. Community Update: Extell Development’s 67th Street Redevelopment (Former ABC/Disney Campus)

As everyone knows, Extell Development is currently doing demolition work at the former ABC/Disney site (West 66th to 67th Streets). The BID receives a Construction Look Ahead and will share information about road closures going forward, starting with the information below. On Saturday, November 8, from 6:00am to 6:00pm, a mobile crane will be used to lift equipment off the roof of 149 Columbus Avenue. The crane will first be positioned on Columbus Avenue between West 66th and 67th Street. The setup will still allow for one lane of vehicular traffic to flow and will not affect traffic on 66th and 67th Street. The operation will be moved by late morning to a second position on 67th Street (East of Columbus Avenue) and fully reopen Columbus Avenue. 67th Street will be closed to vehicular traffic once the crane is relocated to this second position. Parking on 67th Street will be prohibited and marked out 250 feet East of Columbus Avenue on the North and South curbs. Once the crane is demobilized, 67th Street will be reopened to vehicular traffic and parking by 6:00pm, or sooner. Flaggers may pause pedestrians for a moment for safety, if needed, or ask pedestrians to cross the street.

Mammogram Bus

On Tuesday, November 18, from 9:00am to 4:30pm, the Mammogram Bus from the American-Italian Cancer Foundation will be parked across from Council Member Gale Brewer’s District Office at 563 Columbus Ave at West 87th Street. There’s no cost—no co-pays, deductibles are waived, and uninsured patients are welcome—for NYC women between ages 40 to 79 who haven’t had a mammogram in the last 12 months. Surveys for Businesses

Food Service Leadership Training: The NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) is conducting a survey about what type of leadership training is needed for supervisors in food service businesses. To complete the survey, click here. 

Small Business Credit Survey: SBS and the Federal Reserve are partnering on the Small Business Credit Survey, which is seeking information from owners and key financial decision-makers of for-profit businesses about whether and how they use debt, what financial conditions they face, and more. The survey, which closes on Friday, November 14, is available here.

Resources for Veterans

The NYC Department of Small Business Services is hosting a resource fair for veteran and military-connected entrepreneurs on Wednesday, November 12, at 9:30am, at 1 Liberty Plaza. The fair will bring together city agencies, nonprofit service providers, lenders, and veteran-run organizations, all committed to providing resources and support to veteran-owned businesses and those owned by their immediate family members. On the last Tuesday of each month from 10:00am to 3:00pm, a Veteran Service Officer with the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be available at Council Member Gale Brewer’s District Office (563 Columbus Avenue) to assist veterans applying for VA benefits, whether disability, pension, healthcare, dependent, education, or home loans. Bring military service records and discharge form DD214; no appointment necessary.

Municipal Archives Library Book Sale

On Friday, November 7, and Saturday, November 8, from 10:00am to 4:00pm, the NYC Municipal Archives and Library will hold a book sale of items that have been removed from the library’s collections, including books about history, politics, culture, theater, art, food, and iconic landmarks. The sale is taking place at 31 Chambers Street. More information about the event is available here. 

New Year’s Eve All Night Permit

Bars, taverns, restaurants, and other businesses seeking to remain open after the county closing hours on New Year’s Eve (Wednesday, December 31) must file a permit application with the State Liquor Authority by Sunday, November 16. To learn more and apply, click here.
