Lincoln Square's Holiday Tree & Tumbling Brights
December 2021-January 2022

This year, we decided to bring a Holiday Tree back to Dante Park between Broadway and Columbus Avenue at 63rd and 64th Streets. The tree, a 30’ Concolor fir from Bliss, NY was installed by the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation and features a combination of traditional ornaments and unique ornaments from Color Me Mine--our local pottery studio--New York City Ballet, and The American Folk Art Museum. We have also expanded our holiday lighting installation, Tumbling Brights, illuminating the Broadway Mall interiors from 60th Street to 70th Street. Visit Lincoln Square through January 2022 to enjoy this whimsical holiday lighting program, along with our holiday tree.

We lit the Lincoln Square Holiday Tree on Monday, December 6, 2021 at approximately 5:00pm with a small ceremony featuring Frank London and the Klezmer Brass Allstars. Frank London's Klezmer Brass Allstars have been together over 15 years, recorded 4 CDs, and toured the world. Exuberant, energetic, and always effusive, the band will play a mix of holiday street music — Hanukkah and Christmas songs mixed with New Orleans Jazz and endless fun.

Tanya Turgeon and her team of merry performers at the Department of Spectacle joined us at the tree lighting ceremony, delivering the gift of smiles to audiences of all ages with juggling, cheer, and interactive comedy.

Frank London and the Klezmer Brass Allstars

The Allstars return for another performance bringing the original styles of klezmorim back to the Upper West Side. Brought together by Frank London, the group of musicians met at New York City's Knitting Factory bar to combine their knowledge, history and talents. They threw back several cocktails in memory of the old traditions and uncovered secrets and tales of the incredible lost sounds, creating Frank London's Klezmer Brass Allstars.

Michela Marino Lerman is an internationally acclaimed tap dance artist, performer, choreographer, educator, and bandleader. HuffPo calls her a “hurricane of rhythm” and the New York Times declares her a “prodigy” and describes her dancing as “flashes of brilliance.” She is a proud student of Buster Brown, Gregory Hines, Leroy Myers, and Marion Coles.

In 2017 Lerman conceived, co-created, choreographed, and starred in “This Joint is Jumpin’”, and is Associate Producer of the new documentary “American Tap,” an intimate look at tap dance’s roots in American cultural history. Lerman is also a member of the band Michael Mwenso and the Shakes, performing and touring regularly, in addition to performing with an impressive list of music and dance icons, among them Wynton Marsalis, Savion Glover, Jon Batiste and Stay Human, Roy Hargrove, Anna Deavere Smith, Benny Golson, Barry Harris, and Marcus Roberts. 

With a teaching career that was sparked by a master class she gave at age 15, Lerman has since taught in more than 15 countries, 30 tap and dance festivals, and numerous universities including Yale and Tulane. Sharing the rich history of tap dance through education is deeply rooted in all her work.
