SUMMARY:Martha Graham: The Mother of Psychological Dance
DESCRIPTION:This centennial exhibition traces the arc of Martha Graham’s groundbreaking career\, centering her visionary approach to dance as psychological expression. Graham transformed the dancing body into a vessel for inner life\, using movement to externalize emotion\, memory\, and the unconscious. By putting the raw psychology of the individual and social collective on stage\, she redefined what movement could express—not just in dance\, but across all art forms. The show displays rarely seen archival materials from the Jerome Robbins Dance Division’s Martha Graham archive\, set pieces by Isamu Noguchi\, and costumes by Graham\, as well as offer insight into the genius and legacy of Graham and the dance company. \nBorn in 1894\, Martha Graham was an American modern dancer and choreographer. Initially proclaimed as a great dancer\, she started to fundamentally change the way dance looked and was perceived when she founded her Martha Graham Dance Company in 1926. \nToday\, she is often placed alongside artistic household names who significantly impacted their medium. She is recognized as “the mother of modern dance” in dance history not only from her choreographic masterworks\, but also her invention of a new and codified dance language. SUMMARY:OUT of the Jewelry Box
DESCRIPTION:Expanding the voices represented in MAD’s permanent collection\, OUT of the Jewelry Box considers the importance of queer perspectives in the world of studio and contemporary art jewelry. The exhibition showcases an extraordinary gift from Ron Porter and Joe Price\, who have collected and worn art jewelry throughout their forty-one-year relationship\, nine of those legally married. \nOn view are 56 newly acquired works from The Porter Price Collection by queer artists and their allies\, and 22 pieces by queer artists already represented in MAD’s permanent collection. SUMMARY:Exhibition/ Folk Nation: Crafting Patriotism in the United States
DESCRIPTION:Mounted during the celebration of the United States semi quincentennial\, Folk Nation: Crafting Patriotism in the United States draws from the American Folk Art Museum’s rich collections to explore links between vernacular art and the construction of an American sense of self. Introducing visitors to the concept of “folk” as a category developed in conjunction with the art and antiques markets\, this exhibition positions works as multilayered in their meanings\, imbued with cultural significance by not only their creators\, but also their collectors and subsequent owners. Americans have long preserved objects as a way of telling stories about themselves. Beginning after the Revolutionary War and gathering momentum in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries\, people turned to early American things to construct a national history and sense of collective identity—an impulse often driven by lingering insecurity about the young nation’s perceived cultural provinciality compared to Europe. \nThis concentrated exhibition illuminates how makers both historical and contemporary have employed a kaleidoscopic variety of media to express love of country while also revealing the complexities and contradictions embedded in such expressions.

SUMMARY:Summer Jazz Sensations: Jason Tiemann Trio
DESCRIPTION:Drummer Jason Tiemann was born in Tampa\, Florida on July\, 12\,1973. He was raised in Owensboro\, Kentucky. Jason has performed with a vast array of musicians spanning multiple generations from Benny Golson and Houston Person to modern giants such as Peter Bernstein and Eric Alexander.  He can frequently be heard performing in prominent New York City clubs such as Blue Note\, Smoke\, Dizzy’s Club\, Smalls\, Mezzrow\, Zinc Bar\, and The Django. Since 2020\, Jason has played extensively with the Lew Tabackin trio along with Peter Washington\, Boris Kozlov\, as well as further collaborations with Toshiko Akyoshi\, Jon Faddis\, Jeremy Pelt\, and Melissa Aldana. He has performed on dozens of recordings as sideman and collaborator\, notably with Eric Alexander\, Ronnie Cuber\, Andrew LaVerne\, Joe Magnarelli\, Mike LeDonne\, Gary Smulyan\, David Hazeltine\, Randy Brecker\, Jerry Bergonzi\, Eric Person\, and Alex Sipiagin\, to name a few. \nIn 2020\, Jason released his critically acclaimed debut albumT-MAN which features veteran guitarist Ed Cherry and Hammond organist Kyle Koehler. T-MAN topped the United States jazz radio charts and was a DownBeat critic’s pick.  It was also featured on the nationally syndicated public radio show “Jazz After Hours.
